 Learning Japanese Tangrams

Japanese Tangrams (“Wisdom Plates”)

Tangrams are generally regarded as a Chinese invention.  However it was a Japanse Man, Sei Shonogan in 1743 who developed something very similar to Tangrams and published  “Wisdom Plates”.  While Tangrams are the modern words and basic shapes used in most formal math education, the concepts of Tangrams in China were not published until well into the 1800s and years after the publishing of the Japanese “Wisdom Plates”.
